Cork Robotics

Art and making

From an idea to a pen mark.

CorkBot’s current pen configuration is a portable pen plotter for exploring what happens when digital artwork meets a physical pen. Use it to investigate line, texture and composition, with a folding robot you can carry between projects.

Digital to physical

Think in lines and marks.

A pen plotter guides a physical pen along prepared paths to make a drawing. The character of the result comes from the artwork, the pen and the surface together. A line that looks light on a screen becomes an ink mark with its own width and texture.

For a first experiment, choose artwork with a clear structure: a line study, a simple geometric motif or a small drawing. Look at the spaces between marks as carefully as the marks themselves. Start at a size where details are easy to inspect, then compare what the physical pen produces.

CorkBot’s current configuration uses a pen. Treat the first drawing as a material experiment and record what you learn before developing a larger piece.

Prepare a useful experiment

Change one thing at a time.

Small, deliberate comparisons help you choose a direction for a project. Use spare material before the final piece and keep a short project note beside each result.

  • Use the same simple design when comparing surfaces.
  • Note the pen, material and intended drawing size.
  • Inspect line edges, closely spaced marks and open areas.
  • Compare a full view with a close detail before changing the design.

These observations help separate an artwork choice from a pen or surface choice. If a mark behaves differently than expected, a small sample gives you a more useful starting point than changing the entire project at once.

A movable studio setup

Keep your workspace flexible.

CorkBot folds for transport, has a carry handle and travels in a case. Integrated battery and plug-in power let you choose how to power the machine. You can bring it to a stable work surface without dedicating a permanently installed bench to the robot.

The phone app’s AI can retrieve saved artwork, scan and mesh surfaces, and prepare its placement. You review and accept the plot before execution. The workflow guide explains those steps using a saved-logo example.

Start with a project whose artwork and materials you can evaluate directly. Build on the result you can hold, inspect and compare.

Your questions

Planning your first piece.

Is this an AI image generator?

The workflow described here prepares a physical pen plot using saved artwork: retrieval, scanning, meshing and placement, followed by your review and acceptance.

Which materials and pens can I use?

The final launch guidance will identify the supported setup and tested materials. For any project, evaluate a sample of the actual surface before using the final piece.

Where can I see the current software?

Available desktop software and firmware are listed on the downloads page. Launch updates will explain the final package and phone-app requirements.
